Teaching Standards
The Australian Professional Standards for Teachers is a public statement of what constitutes teacher quality. The Standards define the work of teachers and make explicit the elements of high-quality, effective teaching in 21st-century schools, which result in improved educational outcomes for students. The Standards do this by providing a framework that makes clear the knowledge, practice and professional engagement required across teachers' careers. They present a common understanding and language for discourse between teachers, teacher educators, teacher organisations, professional associations and the public.
The Teacher Registration Board (WA) formerly The Western Australian College of Teaching (WACOT)
The Teacher Registration Board of Western Australia came into operation on 7 December 2012 as the body responsible for registration of teachers in Western Australia. It replaces the Western Australian College of Teaching. The Board’s role is determined by the Teacher Registration Act 2012.
In performing its functions the Board is required to:

- develop and publish professional standards for teachers
- develop and publish accreditation standards
- make the best interests of children its paramount consideration in all decision-making.
