Western Australia has its own authorities which are guiding the implementation of the Australian Curriculum in a local context as well as maintaining educational standards across the state.
While the Education Department is the principle education authority for Government Schools, the Catholic Education Office and AISWA (Association of Independent Schools of WA) also guide the policies and procedures for schools under their separate authority.
Education Department of Western Australian (DETWA)
This department is responsible for administering the public education system in Western Australia.
Catholic Education Office (CEOWA)
The Catholic Education system in Western Australia provides a dynamic, student centred approach to education for more than 72,000 young people in 159 schools and colleges across the state.
Catholic Education is the state’s second largest education sector, educating some 18% of all school-aged children in Western Australia (72,000 students in 159 schools and colleges cross the state)
Association of Independent Schools WA (AISWA)
AISWA was established in 1962 as a non-profit organisation to support, represent and promote the interests of Independent Schools. AISWA's constituent members include over one hundred and fifty five Independent Schools including those of two Independent School systems. Its member schools educate over 75,000 students and employ over 5,500 teaching and over 3,500 non-teaching staff.

The Western Australian Curriculum and Assessment Outline is for all students from Kindergarten to Year 10 in Western Australia.
It sets out the curriculum, guiding principles for teaching, learning and assessment and support for teachers in their assessment and reporting of student achievement.

The School Curriculum and Standards Authority is an independent statutory authority that is responsible to the Minister for Education. It is responsible for:
- setting standards of student achievement and for the assessment and certification of student achievement according to those standards
- developing an outline of curriculum and assessment in schools that, taking account of the needs of students, sets out the knowledge, understanding, skills, values and attitudes that students are expected to acquire and guidelines for the assessment of student achievement
- developing and accrediting courses for schools
- maintaining a database of information relating to
- the participation by students during their school years in education, training or employment as provided by the School Education Act
- the achievement of students during those years
- records of assessment in respect to students.
